Barcelona paid €3.4m to sign Romeu last summer as a short-term replacement for Sergio Busquets. But the 32-year-old has struggled to live up to expectations at the Blaugrana. And has been a regular on the bench for much of the second half of the season.
Girona are reportedly keen to reunite Romeu with coach Michel Sanchez. But are keen to sign the player on a free transfer. With the player’s agent Diaz set to travel to the club on Monday to discuss the matter.
In addition, Machiko Diaz, who represents 22-year-old striker Pau Victor, joined Barca Athletic on loan from Girona last season. He scored 20 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions for Rafael Marquez’s side and the club are keen to bring him back.
However, Barcelona must negotiate with Girona. If they want to re-sign the player after the deadline to sign a permanent deal worth €3m passed, with Machiko Diaz travelling to the Blaugrana to seek a solution to both issues.
